Axemen handed 7-0 loss undefeated UNB

Reds score four powerplay goals

FREDERICTON, NB –ย Tyler Bolandย (St. John’s, NL)ย hadย twoย goalsย andย twoย assistsย asย the U SPORTS No. 1 ranked UNBย Redsย defeatedย the Acadia Axemenย 7-0ย on Friday night.

Theย Redsย improve to 7-0ย with the win,ย while the Axemenย drop toย 2-5.ย

Kris Bennett (Brampton, ON) also had a strong showing withย two goals and an assist.ย

The Reds had all the momentum early,ย putting six shots on net before the Axemen could muster one.ย

The Reds pace caused the Axemen to commit all sorts of turnovers, keeping most of the play in the Acadia end.ย

With the Reds on the powerplay, Markย Rassellย (Calgary, AB)ย took a shot from the slot that bounced right to aย wide-openย Matthew Boucherย (Los Angeles, CA)ย who putย itย in a gaping net to put UNB up 1-0.ย

The Redsย powerplay would pay off againย with Bennettย feeding a textbook pass in front to Boland,ย who put away the Reds secondย goalย to make it 2-0.ย

The Reds would keep the pressure on in the secondย period,ย and just 5:41 in,ย Cam Brace (Etobicoke, ON) put the puck five-hole on Axemen goaltender Loganย Flodellย (Regina, SK) to extend UNB’s lead to 3-0.ย

The Axemen would find themselves in penalty trouble again late in the period giving up aย two-manย advantage to the Reds. UNB would again dominate the front of the Acadia net,ย andย Chris Clappertonย (Capย D’Espoir, QC)ย foundย Bennett for the Reds third powerplay goal to make it 4-0.ย

Boland cleaned up a big rebound off a shot by Randyย Gazzolaย (Thorold, ON) early in the thirdย periodย for his second of the game, making it 5-0ย Reds.ย

Bennett added another power-play goal, with just under 10 minutes to play, to make it 6-0.ย

The Reds went 4-7 on the powerplay,ย while the Axemen went 0-6.ย

The Reds would completeย the onslaught with a goal by Mattย Boudensย (Pembroke, ON)ย to make it 7-0.ย

Shots were 48-13ย for UNB.ย

Boland was named Subway Play of the Game for the Reds.ย

Rylan Parenteauย (Saskatoon, SK)ย had a 13-save shutoutย forย the UNB,ย whileย Flodellย stoppedย 41 shotsย in theย Acadiaย net.ย

The Reds play againย Saturday,ย at the Aitken Centre, hostingย the Saint Mary’s Huskies. Game time is 7:00pmย

The Axeman head to Charlottetownย for matchup with the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers.
