Axemen drop 3-1 decision to Moncton

Cam Whynot with lone Acadia goal

WOLFVILLE – Nathan Darveau made 40 saves as the Université de Moncton defeated Acadia 3-1 in AUS men’s hockey action on Saturday.

Jacob Dion opened the scoring for Moncton with a shorthanded goal in the second period, before Cam Whynot tied the game for Acadia on the power play. Charlie Desroches assisted on the Whynot marker.

Michael Horth restored Moncton’s lead in the third period, with David Doucet picking up the assist. Mika Cyr added an empty-net goal to seal the win.

Darveau was named the game’s first star, while Acadia goaltender Nicholas Sheehan, who made 33 saves, was named second star.

Both teams spent 10 minutes in the penalty box, with a total of 10 penalties handed out during the contest. Moncton’s offensive push and Darveau’s stellar goaltending led them to victory.
