Dalton Andrew commits to the Acadia Axemen

Axemen add Manitoba Junior ‘A’ league’s top scorer

The Acadia Axemen are proud to welcome Dalton Andrew to the hockey program for this upcoming fall season.

The 6’5” Brandon, Manitoba native has played the last 3 years with the Winkler Flyers of the Manitoba Junior “A” Hockey League, where he led the league in scoring this season with 82 points, including 43 goals in 54 games. He was named a MJHL First-Team All-Star for the year. In 2022-23, he had 25  goals and 42 points in 57 games. Over his three seasons (2021-2024) in the MJHL, all with the Winkler Flyers organization, he played 141 regular season games, posting 70 goals and 58 assists.

We asked Dalton what made him choose Acadia for his next chapter, he said, “I had some very good conversations with the coaching staff, hearing about the program, and a few conversations with some people who’ve attended Acadia and I heard nothing but great things about both the school and hockey program. Also, learning that Acadia is known to be one of the best universities in Canada, while having a highly respected hockey program, with a winning history. All those things made it an easy decision for me to choose Acadia and I look forward to the opportunity ahead of me.”

Back in 2019-20 and to start the 2020-21 season, the forward played with the Brandon Wheat Kings U18 AAA program, scoring 55 points in 51 games.

He will add size and depth to the Axemen forwards with Reilly Webb and Nick Deakin-Poot, who were both 6’4”, graduating this past season.

Acadia Axemen Head Coach Darren Burns likes the addition of Andrew to his lineup saying, “We are very excited to be bringing Dalton into our program. We feel he is going to be a player who will continually get better. He is a very strong and powerful player, who can shoot the puck. He is tenacious and plays a strong 200 foot game. His speed and toughness will be a huge addition, whether playing on our Olympic size ice or playing in some of the smaller ice surfaces in our physical league.”

As for Andrew, he said, “Axemen fans can expect to see me as a player that works hard, competes hard and loves to win. I’d describe myself as a big power forward with good offensive abilities and a heavy shot. I play with speed and physicality, that creates energy and momentum for the team.”

Dalton Andrew is the first committed recruit for the upcoming season, stay tuned for more announcements in the coming weeks! #GoAcadiaGo
