A five-time Norris Trophy recipient and member of the Hockey Hall of Fame will headline the 18th annual Acadia Axemen Celebrity Hockey Dinner. Boston Bruins great Ray Bourque will visit Acadia University on Thursday, June 18th.

Chosen by the Boston Bruins in the 1979 Entry Draft, Bourque made his NHL debut several months later. He quietly racked up 65 points; the most for a rookie defenseman in NHL history at the time. He was the obvious choice for the Calder Trophy and also earned selection to the NHL’s First All-Star Team. Through 20 seasons with the Bruins, Bourque dominated, earning 17 selections to NHL All-Star Teams. He enjoyed a career season in 1983-84. His 31-goal output was a career high, and his 96 points were not only a career best, but led all defensemen that season.

Bourque joined the Colorado Avalanche at the trading deadline in March 2000, and won his first and only Stanley Cup the following season in 2001. That summer, he retired. During an extraordinary NHL career, Bourque collected 410 goals and 1,169 assists for 1,579 points in 1,612 regular season games. In 214 playoff contests, Bourque added 180 points on 41 goals and 139 assists.  In 2004, he was selected to join hockey’s elite in the Hockey Hall of Fame.

The 2015 Acadia Axemen Celebrity Hockey Dinner takes place on Thursday, June 18th, 7 p.m., at the Andrew H. McCain Arena in Wolfville. Tickets are on sale at the Acadia Arena Box Office (542-5500 or 1-800-542-8425). All profits support the Acadia Varsity men’s hockey program.
