Coaches Burns & Chiasson take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is designed to raise awareness of ALS, also knows as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Coach Burns has nominated former Axemen and current Kingston Frontenacs Head Coach Paul McFarland, current Axemen caption Liam Heelis, and CBC’s Don Cherry!

Axemen Captain Liam Heelis and Brett Thompson accept their nominations for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, and in turn nominate their Axemen linemate Mike Cazzola!

Assistant Coach Michael Chiasson kicked things off accepting his nomination and then nominates Coach Darren Burns and his son Brady.

It may seem like a silly social media meme, but it’s making a difference: The ALS Association reports that it, and its 38 chapters, received $4 million in donations in just two weeks. Last year during that same time period, (July 29-August 12), the association brought in $1.1 million.

Here’s former Acadia Axemen Brad Horan’s video of his nomination as well, Brad has nominated Hollywood movie star and former WWE Wrestler The Rock Dwayne Johnson!
