Acadia wins 5-2, TomStrong night at the Halifax Forum

Axemen Begin Playoff Stretch With Win Over Huskies

TomStrong

It was a special night at the Halifax Forum on February 7, as the St. Mary’s Huskies honored one of their own.Β  The Huskies’ hockey team donned special jerseys to honor Tom Lee, their long time assistant coach, who has battled lymphoma, a form of cancer.Β  In a night designed to bring support for Tom and awareness to defeat this horrible disease, the Huskies raised thousands of dollars to research a cure.

Once the puck dropped, it was apparent that the Huskies were on a mission.Β  But that mission was put on hold for a lengthy delay, as the glass broke in the Axemen end.Β  Once that was fixed, the Huskies quickly went up 2-0.Β  In a game in which they were fighting for their playoff lives, everything was going the Huskies’ way.

That was until the Acadia Axemen found their legs.Β  The Axemen scored five straight goals en route to a 5-2 win, keeping them in the race for first place in the conference.

Joe Gaynor, Liam Heelis, Brett Thompson, Travis Randell and Michael Clarke all scored for the Axemen.Β  Evan Mosher stopped 26 of 28 shots directed his way.

Jamie Doornbosch and Francis Menard replied for the Huskies.Β  Anthony Peters stood tall in the Huskies’ goal, but ultimately succumbed to a relentless Acadia attack.Β  He made 21 saves on 26 shots.

Now the Axemen take to the ice at home for the final three games, taking on Dalhousie on February 8, followed by two games on February 14 and 15, against Moncton and UNB respectively.Β  All games are at Acadia Arena, and game time is 7:00pm.Β  You can follow all the action on www.austv.ca, or follow @axemenhockey and @openingfaceoff on Twitter for in game updates!
