Former Local Hockey Standout Named Penguins Head Coach

The Penguins Organization is excited to announce that one of the most successful players to come out of the community has been named Head Coach for the Jr. Penguins. Joel Isenor was named to the position this past weekend.

The East Hants Jr Penguins are proud to announce Joel Isenor as the team’s Head Coach. Isenor will be joining the Penguins after spending the previous 2 years coaching the East Hants Midgett AAA Minor Hockey Team. Joel is a local guy with a long resume of hockey acheivements throughout his junior and university career. He graduated Acadia University in May of 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree.

 

Prior to his days as a Coach,Β Joel played 5 seasons in the AUS from 2003-2008 with the Acadia Axemen. The highlight of his university playing career came in 2006 when his Axemen won the AUS Championship and represented the Atlantic Provinces at the CIS National Championship in Alberta.

 

Isenor was the 2nd overall draft pick of the Truro Bearcats in the 2000 Maritime Junior A Draft. Joel would go on to play for the Bearcats for 3 seasons from 2000-2003. In his first season he was name the Team’s “Rookie of the Year”, in his second season his team played in the 2002 Fred Page Cup, and in his third season with Truro Isenor was named Team Captain.

 

Joel was also a nationally recognized Fastball player in the early 2000’s. He currently coaches a local Fastball Team in East Hants during the summer months.

 

Ryan Legere (Team Owner) is very excited to have Isenor coaching the Jr Penguins, and feels that “Joel has a lot of great ideas of how this program can be run from a Coach’s point of view and I am very supportive of his vision”. Isenor has been a member of a Championship winning Team in the past “he knows how to be a leader and he knows how to win, enough said” commented Legere.
